Skype is a voice over IP (VoIP) application that allows to make telephone calls over the Internet.

This allows you to see packets that pass through your router. Skype can be enabled to work on any port, therefore, if you block a port, it can be used on a different port. The only real way to block Skype is not, to leave your router. With a tool like NBAR Cisco helps you discover, what Skype packages leave your network routers.
